Full update on the Volcano/Bleep lineup impact

Full details, as on the Bleep43 website:

Volcano special

Sadly, Iceland’s geothermic fuck you to Europe in the shape of a volcanic cloud has pretty much decimated our original line-up for tonight which had included Mika Vanio, Donato Dozzy and Terrence Parker.

Mika Vainio had already cancelled due to illness, and his replacement Lerosa then had to cancel also due to a lack of flights from Ireland.

Terrence Parker then found out that his flight had been cancelled. We had fingers crossed for Donato Dozzy coming from Rome, but as the flight ban has been pushed to Saturday 0100 BST (at time of writing), he has now had to withdraw, too.

It’s as if the Scandinavian gods were punishing us for our steadfast refusal to book Adam Beyer.

Surgeon and other UK talent come to the rescue

Bleep 43, 16 April 2010, full party details

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I’m most pleased to be returning to Bleep 43 and Corsica Studios alongside Terrence Parker and more. Full party details below:

Finnish grandeé of Minimalism Mika Vainio headlines our first party this year on Friday April 16th at Corsica Studios. Although he has retired live outings of Pan Sonic for the forseeable future, he continues to play solo and we’re very excited about witnessing his primeval explorations of analogue-generated electronic sounds. Without doubt one of the more visceral and thought-provoking artists in European music, Vainio’s pedigree is vast – he is one of the true pioneers of minimal techno, evinced by his Sakho label, and the various projects he has masterminded. Put that together with Pan Sonic and his sizeable back catalogue of abstract sound works, some of which have been recently released by Raster-Noton, and you have an idea of just how influential he has been, both to electronic dance music, and to the more cerebral end of the genre.

Joining him in Room 1 is Donato Dozzy, who will be laying down another epic journey of hypnotic techno. We were enthralled by his stately ability to brew infectious atmospheres when he made his UK debut for us last year, and it was only a matter of time before he graced the decks again. 20 years of DJing has enabled Donato to call upon a weighty collection of abstract and obscure techno records, most of which you’ve probably never heard. We have no doubt that alongside Surgeon he’s the best techno DJ in the world right now and are excited by the prospect of yet another techno odyssey from him.

Flying over from Detroit for a rare visit to the UK is Terrence Parker. Something of a veteran turntablist in the Motor City, Terrence mixes house in a unique style, and we’re looking forward to him setting Room 2 alight. Making his Bleep43 debut alongside Terrence is DJ Guy, who has built up a strong following as Europe’s finest booty DJ. Formerly one-half of the Non-Stop DJs, Guy runs his own Global Fire label, and his style encompasses electro, house, disco and funk. Supporting them is one of our regulars, Phonopsia, who returns to Bleep43 after a 2 year absence.

£12 advance tickets are available from We Got Tickets, otherwise it’s £15 on the door, or £9 with a valid NUS card.

Hope to see y’all there! Here’s the Facebook page, if that’s how you roll.

Advanced notice of next Bleep

I’m most pleased to be returning to Bleep 43, playing alongside the inimitable Terrence Parker for the fifth time, at Corsica Studios in Elephant and Castle on Friday 16th April, 2010. This is the night I’ve played at the most and the headlining DJ I’ve played with most, so it feels exceedingly comfortable. I’ll be playing an extended set as well.

If that weren’t enough, we’ve got Europe’s leading booty turntablist, another chance to see Donato Dozzy, and Mika Vanio playing live on a fantastic Funktion 1 rig. I’ll post further details as they’re released.

Sorry I’ve been quiet around here lately. Blog posts go down as micro-blog posts go up, it would seem. If you haven’t already got it, I’m talking most of my nonsense over here now.

Recording of me at Süd Electronic, 4th October 2008

This is the archive of yesterday’s radio broadcast on Duff Paddy’s Eclectic Electric show on Purple Radio, which is a recording of my performance at Süd Electronic last October. Apologies about the bass feedback from around 70 minutes until the end. I switched from Traktor Sctratch to vinyl during this bit of the set, and for once digital proved more resilient than vinyl, as the sound was feeding back with real vinyl but it didn’t pose a problem with time-encoded files. Also, as this was the opening set of the night so levels at the beginning aren’t perfect, blah blah blah, but hopefully it’s still enjoyable.

2020 note: all mixes taken down for now to re-post at higher bitrate on Mixcloud in due course. If you’re at all keen for me to do this, please let me know and I will try and get anything specific you want to hear moved over ASAP.

Upcoming Radio

I’m off on my honeymoon tomorrow but thought I’d give some notice about upcoming radio appearances. I’m not sure when yet, but my latest Thirty Five mix is going to be broadcast on the Bleep43 podcast at some point. If you’re not already a regular subscriber then make sure to rectify that now. Second, a recording of my performance at Süd Electronic last October will be broadcast on my friend Patrick‘s Eclectic Electric show on Purple Radio, Sunday September 13 at 19:00. Enjoy!

Süd Electronic with Move D (Live + DJ), Portable/Bodycode (Live) and Me: Saturday, 4 April, 2009 (Dalston)

I’m a last minute addition to the Süd lineup again. Should be wicked. Move D is playing live and doing a three-hour DJ set. When I played with him last year in the crazy loft it was so crowded I found it hard to enjoy his set. This party is in the same great venue as the last two and attendance will be capped at 300. Although the space is large, the dancefloor filled up a bit at the last two, so this should spread things out a bit. Funktion 1 sound again. Portable is debuting his new Bodycode album live too. Here’s the full blurb:

Line Up :
Move D – Live Set & 3hr Dj Set ( Source , Uzuri , Dial , Compost , Philpot , Mule , Running Back , Modern Love )

Portable/Bodycode – Live set ( Perlon , Musik Kause , Süd , Spectral , Yore , Scape , Karat )

Words :
We are back after a much needed hiatus , for our party season opener with man of the moment Move D and the equally talented Portable/Bodycode on the 4th of April .

Move D ;
Much has been written about Move D in recent months & we are glad that he is receiving all these props as we think that the man is a genius !!!
If his recent dj stint @ Warm @ Plastic People is anything to go by , we are all in for an excellent treat !!
2008 year was a huge year for Move D ; with Resident Advisor subscribers voting him amongst the top 3 of the best live acts in electronic music for 2008 , Ace podcasts and endless tours e.t.c. This is no fly by night artist . David Moufang Aka Move D has been honing his skills for a long time . One of our favourite dj’s and producers .
We are also pleased to have been the first promoters to book him to play in london . He has been playing our first party of the year now since 2007 . His kindly offered to play a live set for us on the night as well as a 3hr dj set !!!
So expect the very best in House & Techno !!

Portable/Bodycode :
2008 was also a huge year for Alan Abrahams aka Portable/Bodycode ; with his wonderful new school with a retro twist excursions on Perlon & Musik Krause . His started 2009 on a good footing as well , sharing billings with the likes of Omar S in LA last weekend as well as a quick turn in New York .
Spectral will be releasing a second album by the man , under his Bodycode guise in May 2009 . A 12″ vinyl taster featuring a track taken off the album will be released in March . This 12″ will feature a remix by Babyford .
His kindly offered to play a world exclusive live set , showcasing the album . i’ve had the pleasure of sampling the album as well as featuring on one of the tracks on vocal duties and i must say this is a fresh as you like outing ! !
Unmissable in other words .

Venue :
We have been using this Dalston venue since last October . Our favourite venue yet . Proper underground , just the way we like it , with an ace enclosed garden and decent security !!

we apologise for the less than perfect sound quality at our xmas bash at this venue . We were running the Funktion one on a pioneer mixer and as a result the sound quality was compromised . we will be running it this time on an Allen & Heath or Funktion 1 Formula Mixer so there will be a noticeable difference this time around !

We will be limiting the capacity to 300 this time around as we do not want to pack the venue out too much , this time around .

A great venue has been sourced out for the 4th, right in the heart of Dalston .
This venue used to be an art deco cinema back in the day and is now being used as a snooker halll . it still maintains some of it´s original features though and we will be putting some magic into it with our own deco including some great visuals by Valero Doval .
I’m currently very excited by Valero’s work . His work encompasses art , design and illustration with a portfolio wich includes work for various art magazines and publications including illustrations for the New York Times , artwork for various bands e.t.c.

We have slightly increased capacity for this one as result of the last 2 parties being to packed .

We’ve enlisted the help of two of our favourite producers / dj´s to come provide some top draw music on the night .

Scott Ferguson and Prosumer .

More on them :

Scott Ferguson ( Detroit – Ferris Park , Deep Vibes , International Dj Gigolos, Kinda Soul Recordings )

With 17 releases under his belt as well as various remixes and appearance on mixes and compilations , a forthcoming album on K Soul’s , ” Kinda Of Soul ” imprint ( The album is out in October ) ; is fair to say that Scott is a veteran in what he does .

A unique synthesis of Blues, Soul, Disco, House, and Techno music are echoed in both Scott Ferguson’s productions and DJ sets. His jazzy and soulful compositions, energetic club tracks and druggy slow-burners incorporate a blend of engaging rhythms with conscious themes. A perfect blend of awareness and unique style makes Ferguson stand on his own and is embraced by music lovers around the globe.

In 1994/95 Hungry and seeking knowledge, Scott Ferguson connected with local DJs at Zoots, The Sardine Bar, and warehouse parties at the Packard Plant and Bankle Building where Detroit’s electronic music sub-culture thrived. Attending raves and clubs on a weekly basis, Scott became immersed in the scene as well as starting his own collection of House and Techno records. He never looked back since .

2002 saw the launch of Ferrispark with the hit ep , „Dump Days . this ep went on to receive accolades from the press across europe and many parts of the world and won him fans left right and centre . those fans included some of the biggest names in electronic music – Louie Vega, Terry Hunter, Frankie Knuckles , Stacey pullen , Dj Hell , Terence Parker e.t.c. to name but a few .

Scott continues to dazzle audiences all over with a packed european tour in october , stopping over here @ Süd , Berlin , Holland , Belgium and many more cities .

Prosumer ( Berghain /Panorama Bar , Ostgut , Running Back , Playhouse )

Achim Brandenburg aka Prosumer has been a fervent collector of music for years . Resident at world renowned Berghain/Panorama Bar & has had a stint behind the counter at another Berlin institute ; HardWax .

Here is what Prosumer has to say about his sets and music in general :
” My heart is beating for early Chicago -Detroit techno records and for music thats similar and transports this feeling today . Generally i like producers who follow their feeling and who work on a personal style which caters for longevity , rather than a momentary kick . ”

Prosumer is not only a dj but he is also a producer . he released his debut ep on Swayzak’s 240 volts label in 2004 then followed the smash hit ” The Craze ” in 2005 on Playhouse . Soon he was in demand for remix work . he released another hit ep on Gerd janson’s , Running Back imprint .
2008 saw an album by Prosumer and studio partner Murat Tepeli and he has since been ultra busy with dj & live stints in revered clubs such as the Rex , Robert Johnson , Fabric , Piping Club , Weekend , Watergate , Paradiso e.t.c.

Our residents Nick Craddock me & Lakuti will be joining in the celebrations too .

Hope you can make it !!!

Bleep NYE 2002

This one’s getting wheeled out by request of Rob Taylor, although I reckon the memories of the night will be better than the experience of listening to it today. The beginning is drift-y (to be kind) and the rest has levels all over, etc. All that said, it was my first proper set in London so it holds some very fond memories. And the tracks are favourites of mine, so here goes!

Note: the file is wma, as that’s the format I originally received it in and I didn’t want to introduce the lossiness of decode and re-encoding. Anyway… I had to log on to the Microsoft site to claim a license to listen to it (shows how long it’s been since I’ve listened to a wma file). Apologies if that causes any problems.

Saturday June 7 – Süd Electronic With Move D, Lerosa (Live debut), Lakuti and me

Got me another gig coming up at the next Süd. I’m most pleased to be playing beside long-time musical hero Move D and Lerosa, who’s recent releases have been some of the most consistent and varied around. In addition to being exciting on account of the talent, it’s being held in Sud’s best venue, last used when Move D rolled through town and tore shit up last year AND there will also be a Funktion 1 rig installed, which should pretty neatly round things out.

Here’s the full poop:

Thanx so much for those who came out to support us and Rick Wade on the 4th of April .
The 7th of June sees us back in action and most importantly in our favourite venue .
This Top Floor Loft Style venue comes with a crazy 60’s style lift ; in the E2 area . This is where we honed and nurtured what we do now & we’ve always had a special time there . my favourite time being around 5 am when the sun comes seeping through the window , with a handful of people still shuffling on the dancefloor with big smiles on their faces .Classic ! Smile

The One ingredient that has been lacking in these proceedings though , has been a great soundsytem …
Well ,that’s about to change .We will be bringing in , arguably the most in demand soundsytem . A Funktion 1 soundsystem will take it’s place of pride at this sweet venue .

Music and guests wise ; we will be celebrating & presenting the talent on Uzuri Recordings and beyond .
Uzuri came to life last November with a rather tasty ep by Lerosa , which was followed by a heavyweight ep by the legend that is Move D .It seemed appropiate to invite both Move D & Lerosa to come represent what Uzuri is all about .

Move D

David Moufang aka Move D needs no introduction to any one with an interest in electronic music .One of the true pioneers and gems in the european electronic scene .Can this man do no wrong ??? It’s seems not .With excellent releases also , on Compost , Workshops ,Philpot , Modern Love ; A recent killer 12″ on Dial Records alongside Benjamin Brunn and shortly an album on Dial with benjamin Brunn . His ep on the youthful Uzuri has been the biggest release so far. Now in it’s 3rd repress .Known for his impressive collaborations too , .Not only is he an outstanding producer ,lucky for us , he is also an excellent dj .On this occassion , expect the best in Deep House and Techno & what ever else that may take his fancy .

For More on Move D :
http://www.myspace.com/moufang

Lerosa

Leopoldo Rosa aka Lerosa has been causing somewhat of a stink with his excellent output .With his first release on Dublin’s D1 label , quickly followed by excellent releases on Real Soon & Enclave Recordings , then followed an ep on ATC quickly followed by his ep for Uzuri .Then features on Germany’s Debug Magazine , as well as Groove Mag soon followed and most recently , an article on London’s Faith’s Strobelight Honey Magazine .Not one to rest on his laurels , there are already ep’s scheduled for release on Uzuri as well as the Styrax affiliated label ; Millions of Moments ; which has seen big records from Redshape , Aaron Carl e.t.c. as well as an ep on Real Soon .
The 7th of June will see Lerosa unveiling his Live Set to the public , for the first time ever .

For More on Lerosa :
http://myspace.com/lerosa

Move D and Lerosa will be supported by Tristan Watkins aka Phonopsia & Lakuti .

We will be on a summer break after this one so do not miss !

Hope you can make it !
